Three Is The Key Number for Microsoft

After the successful launch of the Surface Pro 3 – plus the popularity it gained in the market – Microsoft Malaysia has announced its sibling to the local market, the new Surface 3. It is the latest addition to the Surface family, and currently the lightest and thinnest in the family as well. Announced last March, the Surface 3 brings more options for local consumers.

“When we envisioned Surface all those years ago, we challenged ourselves with an ambitious goal –  to build a perfect product, a tablet that can replace your laptop. It wasn’t something we would achieve overnight and we couldn’t do it alone. So we went on that journey with our customers –  listening and learning –  and that desire to build something that people will love is what drives is. We are extremely thrilled with the enthusiastic response from Malaysia when we began our Surface journey in Malaysia – beginning with Surface RT and Pro in 2013, which continued with Surface 2 and our big hit Surface Pro 3 last year, ” said Rukmani Subramaniam, Chief Marketing and Operations Officer, Microsoft Malaysia.

The Surface 3 uses Intel’s latest x7 Atom quad core processor – the highest performing Atom processor right now. With a processing power of almost 85% to compare with the Intel Core i3 Surface Pro 3, it is also designed specifically for tablet use – striking the perfect balance between performance and battery life.

For the display, Microsoft opted to use a smaller version than the one used on the Surface Pro 3. While smaller, the 10.8 inch ClearType Full HD display is still as vibrant as ever, and it still includes both palm-detection and pen-detection technologies built in. Microsoft has also elected to put in two cameras – a 3.5 megapixel on the front and an 8 megapixel on the back – both capable to record 1080p videos.

Two versions will be available for consumers – a 64GB with 2GB of RAM, and 128GB with 4GB of RAM. The price for the former will be RM 1,989, and the latter is RM 2,389. Also launched along the two models are first party accessories for the Surface 3 – namely Type Covers (RM 479 in three colours – Black, Bright Blue and Red), Surface Pen (RM 189) and also the Surface 3 Dock (RM 769).
